Best Lennon I've read! SIX STARS!!

Wiener describes wonderfully, and with great interest to the reader, how Lennon inter-related with people close to him as well as events around him. It is an excellent commentary on the sixties as well as much of the seventies. Being exactly ten years younger than Lennon, I considered myself the prime age (13) when the Fab Four made it big. The "Summer of Love" fell between my junior and senior years in high school. I felt part of the times. Wiener, however, only demonstrated to me how much I missed, and how little I understood! COME TOGETHER is highly recommended not only for my generation, and my parents' (who thought they knew it all), but especially the younger generations who love the music, and want more.

a wonderfully written account on the pros and cons of lennon

It is true that Lennon had much to learn about politics.It is also true that he had even more to learn about life.He even had much to learn about music (he would have been the first to agree with the last point),but he had something that only a select few people from his "genre" had,and that was desire to be heard.Naturally,when he was heard he had much to say.When he got the opportunity to say it,he had much tendency to speak it with words that made only sense to the ones who lived in his world (or at least wanted to).There were a few messages he made,however,that did not only affect millions of lives,but may have even changed it for the better.This was a power he began to realize during the height of his success with the Beatles,and it scared the hell out of him.Probably beyond what any of us could possibly concieve,it ripped him to shreads.Yoko helped much in the way of opening him up,but in using him as a puppet (as many did),she really only made matters worse.It was not until just before his death that he really began to realize that what he wanted in life was peace and good music.Not the peace of the world,but peace of mind for himself.The book Come together captures this emotional roller coaster ride better than any book written on the subject.Next to Barry Miles' "Paul Mccartney:many years from now" it is without question the most honest and well written account on one of the greatest pop culture stories ever told.And it is written with wit and wisdom,as well as sympathy for a man that was terribly misunderstood,even by his own self.Something to be read numerous times,especially the account on the "more popular than Christ" contreversey.Lennon is a true icon for this century,but he was also very human (more than most),and this book portrays this fact very well.

Jon Weiner's book is a goldmine for all those interested in Lennon's political phase which he actively was involved in after his departure from England to the States. His underground friends and allies like Jerry Rubin, David Peel, Michael X and a host of others star in this novel which takes us down the streets of New York with a political Lennon voicing his concerns and opinions on a host of issues not related to his world of music. Though the style is not very evolved, Weiner's book is indispensible for any serious study of John Lennon's political inclinations.

He shows how each system became part of a larger set of social constructions through its links to the home, the factory, and the city. The result is a social history of America as seen through the lens of energy consumption.

Despite the double-entendre in its title, this work focuses less on the history of America's consumption of energy than on its sheer consumption, conspicuous and incorrigible. Nye (American studies, Odense Univ., Denmark; American Technological Sublime, LJ 11/1/94) attempts to examine how the development of energy systems within America's unique culture, within a complex set of social constructions, caused the United States to become the "greatest power-consuming nation in history." His rambling and tentative work moves awkwardly from the painfully mundane, such as the type of shoes people wore, to the painfully abstruse: "Possessing a new way to move through the world creates tacit dynamic and perceptual knowledge, thus expanding the potential for experience." Lacking serious discussion of BTUs and horsepower, it is largely a hodgepodge of technology, commerce, and labor, a better treatment of which can be found in any standard history text. Excellent overview

Rating the first book one has read on a subject is always a speculative venture one has nothing to compare it with. That said, Consuming Power is a very engaging read and covers a wide range of technical and social issues that gave rise to power systems in the US, contrasting our choices with the UK to make the case that, indeed, our systems WERE choices. The later chapters in the book are not without a bias regarding the current debate over human induced climate change, but the presentation is forthright; one can choose to agree with the author or not. This is a good read, and the copious footnotes provide ample information for additional acquisitions.

I thought this book was fascinating. I have been doing research on energy for a long time and this is one of the best books I have read. Nye examines the role that energy use has played in American society -- an important relationship that energy analysts have generally ignored. The book is very readable and well-researched, and always interesting.

The book has some great exercises that helped me practice before the test

The book has some great exercises that helped me practice before the test. The longer you practice the better you get at it and they also had very clear steps that show you exactly what you need to do to arrive at the accurate answer that was you calculation of the dose you are giving is not too much or too little to damage the patient which is very important in the healthcare. I believe most schools need you to pass this course with at least 3.8GPA so there is very little if not any room for mistakes.

I suck in math!!! I got this book bc its required for my rn program. Before starting the nursing program, I was so scared bc I suck in math & told us we have a dosage calculation test every semester we have to pass w a 90% or higher. This book literally goes step by step with great explanation, it has formula boxes with tips to remember in each chapter. There are plenty of practice questions. I got 100% on all my hw & I passed my dosage calculation exam with a 100%, hands down the best!!! Its worth it!!!!

For someone that has always been intimidated by math in general, this book is the bomb! It is a requirement for my nursing school, and it explains things and causes them to "stick" with me like nothing I've ever seen. Even if it isn't a requirement for you, and you worry about math, get this book! You will not be sorry!

About the Author
Mike Westbrook was manager of technological research with Ford Motor Company at Dunton, Essex, and has now retired after 33 years in the automotive industry. He has also been Visiting Professor at Southampton University, Chairman of the IEE Computing and Control Division (1983-4), Vice-President of the Institute of Physics (1992-6) and IEE Faraday Lecturer (1987-8). He has been author or co-author of 29 technical papers and a book Automotive Sensors (IOP 1994), as well as lecturing extensively in the UK and USA.

Excellent overview of electric cars

The Electric Car gives an excellent overview of electric cars. And as promised by the subtitle, Westbrook discusses the development and future of battery, hybrid and fuel-cell cars. All in all, this book is the best I have found on this important subject. I recommend it highly.

As interest increases in electric cars, particularly hybrids, books on the subject increase as well. Some are interesting and helpful. A surprisingly large amount are not. Few, if any, match the depth and breadth of the information and opinion in The Electric Car.

Westbrook spent his career working with electric cars. That shows in the book's detailed information and patient discussion. This is a book by an industry insider, who knows what he is talking about. What he does not know, he finds out, through contacts in the industry that he keeps active.

Westbrook does tend a little toward the pedantic. And he loves a long and complex sentence. No fluffy reading here. In fact, the book can be hard to get through if you are tired and not at the best of your game.

Nonetheless, if you have strong interest in electric cars, in my opinion you need this book.

This book provides an accurate history of electric and hybrid cars, however it may be a bit lacking in terms of charting the future of electric cars and their power sources. All in all a solid buy for a intoduction to electric car technology.

works for me, with caveat

Well written. Slightly outdated for 2011, but a good introduction for me. Not for people without electronics or mechanical knowledge. I don't work in electronics, but I completed a two year electronics tech program. This book speaks to me, but my non-electronics friends wouldn't have a clue what to make of it. The IEE Power & Energy Series is pretty cool in general!

Terry Barrett is Professor of Art Education, with a joint appointment in the Department of Art, at The Ohio State University, where he is the recipient of a distinguished teaching award for courses in criticism and aesthetics within education. This book along with other Berret's book titled 'Why is that Art?' is a comprehensive introduction to art and design student. Simply to clarifying the mind for studying art/design by categorizing the elements of art making and meaning into : Subject Matter (content), Form, Context and Medium. It would be fruitful for student alike who willing to learn about writing his own artist statement on a more scholarly-based. =)
